Elmer Goudsmit

Psychiatrist/psychotherapist, Luxembourg

After medical school, Elmer did research in brain aging and Alzheimer’s disease. After his promotion, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Amsterdam and Basel, before starting his clinical training as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist in Maastricht in 1993. He has been practicing as a psychiatrist since 1997 and did additional training in family- and couples-therapy and in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). From 2003 till 2008 he received his schema therapy training in the Netherlands and in Germany. He is an internationally (ISST) certified schema therapist and supervisor. He participated in the 2008-2010 training program in Voice Dialogue and transformational psychology with Robert Stamboliev and Maria Daniëls at the ITP in Bergen.

After 3½ years as a psychiatrist in the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, with a focus on post-partum psychiatry, he has been working in private practice. Since 2006 he lives and works in Luxembourg. Areas of interest are: personality disorders, mood- and anxiety disorders, somatoform disorders, alcohol- and substance abuse and couples therapy. He participates as a trainer and supervisor in the schema therapy training programs in Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne and Dresden.

For the ITP, Elmer offers a courses in psychopathology. Together with Robert Stamboliev, he is working on the integration of Voice Dialogue and schema therapy.
